To get a job in fashion or retail as a Graphic Designer you will have begun your career as a Junior/ Assistant Fashion Graphic Designer progressing up to a job as Senior Fashion Graphic Designer and even of Head of Fashion Graphics in the larger fashion and retail organisations. Working closely with the shape Designers and reporting into a Fashion Design Manager/Director, a Graphic Designer is responsible predominantly for creating all over prints, placement prints and graphics for a variety of garments whether this is for womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, fashion accessories, footwear, or lingerie. Fashion Graphic Designers can also be involved with producing designs for trims branding such as swing tickets.
The job role of Fashion Graphic Designers duties also involves: researching fashion trends, new dye and print techniques, sourcing prints and approving strike offs for the fashion/retail company. A Fashion Graphic Designer will also be proficient in a variety of CAD applications including Photoshop and Illustrator and have excellent hand drawing skills.
