Garment Technologist

To get a job in fashion or retail as a Garment Technologist, candidates will have strong technical knowledge regarding garment construction, patterns and fabrics, as well as a sound grasp of the production processes within a fashion and retail environment. Garment Technologists also have excellent attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. As a Garment Technologist you will be responsible for the fitting and sealing of the garments within the fashion company whether it is womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, fashion accessories, footwear, or lingerie.

In order to get a job in fashion as a Garment Technologist you will need a fashion specific technical degree. You will start as an Assistant Garment Technologist, and then progress to a Junior Garment Technologist and then Garment Technologist. From there you can progress to a Technical Manager or Head of Technical within a fashion/retail company.
